The surveyor must be nationally certified by S.A.M.S. (Society of Accredited Marine Surveyors) or N.A.M.S. (National Association of Marine Surveyors). Accreditation by either of these agencies is necessary for most insurance companies and lending institutions to issue a policy or make a marine loan.
